What to do with the First Line ...

The first line is not clicking. Everyone can see this. I've heard everything from putting Prucha on the first line and moving Drury to 3rd line center to put Zherdev on the 1st line and move Naslund down to the second. Well my opinion is a radical one, I say we just leave it the same. Give the line some time, every line doesn't connect like the Playstation Line did. We are in a position (5 - 1) to give it a shot. We don't need to freak out and do something now. Let's give it time and see what happens.

Streak Ends Rangers Drop One to Sabres

Well I had the great pleasure of attending tonights' 3 - 1 loss against the Sabres.

Quick notes:
- I had three Sabres fans in front of me. In the first period they started yelling about a bad play Drury made and there were about 4 quick responses.
1. "Shut the **** up"
2. This isn't your ****ing arena
3. Go home, Buffalonian
4. (My favorite) Suck my **** you mother ****in, Canadian wanna-be, farmer.

10 Things on the Game:

1. The Rangers looked terrible, not one crisp pass.
2. Drury, what the hell? You looked like Zherdev out there not getting back. A little hustle out there would be nice, CAPTAIN.
3. Prucha, this guy just can not finish anymore. He gets chances from hustle, and you have to love him blocking a shot with his stomach, but he can't finish.
4. The first line has not looked good recently. Gomez played well tonight though.
5. PAUL MARA GET OFF THE STEROIDS. I don't know what has gotten into him but he's hitting everything and for no reason. He changed the game today for the Rangers.
6. The Sabres played aggressive the entire night and the Rangers didn't know what to do. They couldn't dump the puck cause the defenseman beat them to it and they couldn't freely skate into the zone.
7. Fourth line was a none factor. Though I thought Sjostrom played well again.
8. Not a good game by Henrik, he looked all over the place.
9. Don't know if it was just me but the refs looked terrible in the game. A couple of hooking/tripping penalties that weren't called. Not one to complain over the refs but we needed some momentum.
10. The Rangers just got outplayed, plain and simple. Let's get ready for Friday.

Rangers Continue to Own the Devils

The Rangers defeated the Devils by the score of 4 - 1 tonight.

First, R.I.P. Alexei Cherepanov. So tragic to see such a great player and an astounding talent's life cut short. You will forever be remembered. Once a Ranger, AlWAYS a Ranger.

Ten things on the game:

1. The Ranger fans serenated the Devils with a "You can't beat us chant." You have to have confidence in the Rangers chances against the Devils.
2. I was reading HFboards and I think one Devils' fan's post stuck out the most:
"Yeah, it's only the third game of the season...but we still have the same issues. We can't beat the Rangers....and we can't score goals....and Marty sucks against the Rangers. I want to see Weekes against them the next time we face them." Couldn't say it any better.
3. I said in my last post that Dubinsky is an emerging star. Well I lied ... he has arrived. And nice to see the unselfishness of Dubinsky to give Callahan a goal.
4. Echoing what the Devils' fan said: Marty sucks, that first goal was terrible and it set the tone for the rest of the game.
5. Voros is a beast and the new Avery infront of Brodeur. By the way, he leads the league in goals.
6. Redden is playing great. He is really helping out the power play.
7. Drury drop the damn gloves, the Devils' terrible captain was punching you in your face and you just let him?
8. Third line played well, but still no goals, minus Callahan's empty netter.
9. Zherdev must have a man crush on Dubinsky because passing back to him on that 2 on 1 was completely unnecessary. Zherdev had a shot and he's got to take it.
10. What was Renney doing on the 5 - 3? Why would he mix up lines and not put the Playstation Line out there. They looked terrible.

Phew Rangers Hold On To 4 - 3 Win Over Flyers

Well after the Palin dramatics, which Republican or not had no place in a hockey game, the Rangers jumped out to a 4 - 0 lead. They then held on from heavy pressure to win 4 - 3.

10 Things ...

1. Terrible non-call that gave the Flyers an open net. If thats not goalie interference, what is?
2. Dubinsky will one day be the Rangers captain. That fight with Mike Richards was awesome.
3. Zherdev had a goal and an assist, but failed to hustle back on a play in which Richards scored. Tisk Tisk.
4. Blair Betts scored a goal. A great pass from Zherdev, and Betts scored.
5. Sjostrom played fantastically and scored a nice goal
6. Biron sucks.
7. Valiquette looked alright. He made saves when he was forced to.
8. Rissmiller played ok, but still hasn't impressed me.
9. Roszival's slap shot on the powerplay was impressive. Keep firing at the net.
10. Standing ovation for the PK. That 5 - 3 was gigantic and they shut it down. They have killed every penalty so far this season.

4 - 0 - 0 Lets keep it going! We got Marty and the Devils Monday

Rangers Defeat Blackhawks 4 - 2

So I had the awesome experience of being at this game. The 400s section is by far the best in the arena. The Season Ticket Holders are hysterical and it's just a fun time. The crowd was going nuts tonight. It felt like a playoff game. The Lets Go Rangers, and Potvin Sucks chants were excellent. High fiving random comrades after goals, MSG is great.

On the game:
1. Nasty, nasty Dubinsky goal. He is an emerging star.
2. Redden, damn he can shoot.
3. Voros, first star, great game, right top corner goal.
4. Zherdev, my friend and I went insane when Zherdev scored. I hope it is one of many.
5. Lundqvist is still a beast.
6. Kalinin looked alright, if the player is coming at him he's good, if the player tries to go around him he's done.
7. Callahan set the tone with the fight in the first 3 minutes. Love it.
8. Dawes and Sjostrom did not have their best games. Fritsche needs to play. Forget Prucha and Rissmiller.
9. Wait the Rangers have a second line? Really? It's not just Jagr. Wow
10. I'm exciting, the Rangers are playing well. Tomorrow is a tough game. The Rangers have to be tired. We shall see.

Rangers Notch Second Win

The New York Rangers improved to (2-0-0) after beating the Lightning 2 - 1. They swept the 2 game series in Prague.

Thoughts:
1. The powerplay in which Redden scored on was beautiful. After about 10 shots from the point from Roszival and Gomez (yes, two players who never shot last year) Naslund fed Redden in front of the net and Redden buried it.
2. Zherdev is so much better defensively than people let on. Larry Brooks can kiss my ass. I saw Zherdev drop down to block a shot. Then I saw him unleash a shoulder into Stamkos that knocked Stamkos back 5 feet. Zherdev is pretty big as 6'2 205.
3. Stamkos is going to score a lot of goals. First the shot Lundqvist saved yesterday and then an absolute rip that had to of dented the crossbar. I'm just happy Melrose is an idiot and didn't play him that much.
4. Melrose said after the game he was embarrassed. Damn right he should be. The Rangers completely outworked the Lightning.
5. Kalinin played a hell of a game. He impressed me today, especially on the Penalty Kill. I don't know if we can expect that every game but damn that was good.
6. Marc Staal is a beast
7. The fourth line almost had an opportunity at almost scoring. Actually, Betts made a nice move to the net. They got some good scoring chances. Their hard work led to the Gomez goal.
8. It's so nice not having to watch Hollweg hit people for no reason.
9. The Voros - Malone fight was the worst thing I've ever seen. Malone just dropped to the floor.
10. I'm loving the 3rd line.

Rangers Start with Win

The Rangers (1-0-0) beat the Lightning today by the score of 2 - 1. This is what I took out of it:

1. No need to be worried about Lundqvist, made some huge saves for us.
2. Naslund could of had at least 4 goals today, though he only got 1 lets up he gets a lot of those opportunities.
3. Kalinin is the new Malik. He's not bad positioning wise, but he's insanely slow. Hopefully he'll improve.
4. Gomez 11 - 13 in the faceoff circle ... also his puck carrying was excellent.
5. Was it me or did Dubinsky's power play goal look a lot like a Jaromir Jagr goal? Right slot, filthy wrister.
6. Speed kills and even though the Rangers only scored twice this game was incredibly entertaining.
7. Zherdev looked ok, shooting a lot more than in preseason, his puck carrying worries me though. He's very prone to turnovers.
8. The Prucha - Korporkoski - Callahan line played very well. Lots of intensity, and lots of skill.
9. The power play went 1 - 7 but looked much better than last year. I wasn't screaming shoot as much as last year. It still needs to improve.
10. Lundqvist's save on Stamkos was phenomenal. Welcome to the world of Vezina contending goaltenders Mr. Stamkos.

Season Opener: It's Finally Here!

The Rangers are less than 15 minutes from opening up the season. The big news today is that previously unexpected to play, Petr Prucha will start tonight. While I would rather see Prucha play over Sjostrom, I don't understand this. If you're going to make a decision you should probably stick to it. Prucha practiced with a completely different line yesterday. Also, why isn't Fritsche in the line-up? Tom Renney doesn't make any sense but what else is new?

As reported, Drury was named Captain, and Naslund and Gomez were named Assistants.

Today's game will feature the New York Rangers against the Tampa Bay Mullets (or Lightning.) Both teams overturned their rosters and are still looking to gain some chemistry. As the Czechs would say let's play some puck.

Big Night

So our depth of 3rd and 4th wingers will be showed off tonight in full force. Tomorrow is cut day and today will help the Rangers narrow down the guys who are going to make the team. Personally, I am hoping Nedved sucks, and Korpedo plays well. I dson't understand why anyone would want Nedved on the team. Why not just bring Jan Hlavac and Radek Dvorak? Nedved is 37 years old. He doesn't fit into the new philosophy of get younger and faster. Also, wouldn't you rather have Shanahan or Sundin if we were going to get another 35+ player. Korpedo has played just as well as Nedved and he has the ability to improve. Today is make it or break it for a lot of the guys. I hope all the young guys play well and make it tough for the coaches and management.

Lines:

Rissmiller-Betts-Weise
Parenteau-Nedved-Prucha
Sjostrom-Korpikoski-Orr
Voros-Callahan-Fritsche.

Defense:
Fahey-Pock
Redden-Girardi
Potter-Kalinin

8 goals - 4 games explanation?

From Lohud, "Meanwhile, that’s eight goals in four games for the Rangers. Tom Renney’s explanation? “Strange as it may seem, we haven’t really placed a premium on our offense yet,” he said. Oh, OK. Let us know when you get around to that."

I'm sure Zherdev is loving New York already. I can't believe with all these new acquisitions Renney hasn't worked on the offense. How does he expect us to score? Talent? As the late Herb Brooks once said, "You don"t have enough talent to win on talent alone."
