Lohud's Ranger blog is reporting that the Rangers have resigned Paul Mara.
Ok, so this move doesn't make sense to me. Now, we have 6 defenseman (Redden, Staal, Rozsival, Girardi, Kalinin and Mara) for next year. Once again, we don't give guys like Hutchison, Pock, and Sanguinetti an oppurtunity. Mara is a large (6'4) defenseman that has a powerful shot. His actual defense has been iffy as a Ranger.
UPDATE:
The terms are 1 year at 1.95 million according to Lohud.

Im not sure why they signed Mara either, he is a big body defenceman but he doesn't effectively play like one. He's not very tough in front of the net. However, this move does make the team D stronger and adds needed depth. Most likely it will be Kalinin who lose ice time if Sanguinetti proves he can play. I'm not sure Hutch re-signed either.
Yeah I mean when Mara was at his best, he was the powerplay defenseman for the Coyotes. I don't understand why he would want to resign when the Rangers never really had the best role for him. It's a one year deal which gives Sanguinetti another year to develop. I would've liked to have seen the Rangers give someone a chance.
